The exhibition Winter Games! Winter Sports. Photographs from the LIFE Archives 1936-1972 represented a cornerstone in the cultural and political program of the City of Verona. It was configured as a unique, custom-tailored project designed to celebrate the city’s entry into the heart of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. Officially integrated into the Milano Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympiad, the exhibition ideally connected the past and future of winter sports right in Verona, which was designated as the prestigious stage for both the Olympic Closing Ceremony in the historic Arena and the Paralympic Opening Ceremony. Within this international framework, the event marked a historic milestone for the local community and the city’s exhibition history: the installation inaugurated the public reopening of the Centro Internazionale di Fotografia - Scavi Scaligeri after a decade of closure and complex restoration efforts. The evocative subterranean spaces in the heart of the city, located at Cortile Mercato Vecchio, were thus brought back to life, creating a layered dialogue where the architecture of the past amplified the immersive and powerful visual journey.
